Music Blogs Taken Seriously

April 1, 2008 by cbonnell

The Buzznett buzz continues to build with Popmatters weighing in with an editorial and also a copy of the form letter offer sheet that Buzznet sent out to Bloggers a few weeks back.  I ignored the letter like all the offers I receive by way of email, it was convoluted and seemed scammy.

Nothing But Green Lights got major press in this article about the relevance/importance of mp3 blogs by BBC4.

Diatribes…

April 1, 2008 by cbonnell

Twang Nation asks the interesting and completely valid question of whether free downloads are a valuable means to an end or is it simply giving it all away for free.

Catbird Seat takes aim at music geeks and the overabundance of indie music on the net with this mixtape on Muxtape. But reading through the lolz I get a sense (and I’ve picked up on this in other Catbird Seat posts) that Catbird is also taking aim at the new gatekeepers.

There was a short time, a few years back, that the arguement was that mp3 blogs were going to replace traditional gatekeepers (radio, magazines, traditional press). Although no one would admit it, mp3 bloggers were thrilled with that new power. They hardly got a chance to use it however.

Now, though the true egality of the net is taking over and anyone with a broadband connection can upload music to sites like iMeem, iLike and now Muxtape and have just as much influence the nascent bloggers.

Spring Redesigns

March 30, 2008 by cbonnell

Nothing like the hint of spring to encourage bloggers to redesign their sites and do a little spring cleaning.  Here’s just a few that we’ve noticed:  Nine Bullets, Donewaiting, Tha Bomb Shelter, The Rising Storm, Song By Toad.

Belated Birthday Wishes

1 year is an eternity in the music blogging world so anyone celebrating 2+ will get an entry on here. Recently The Rawking Refuses To Stop! and The Torture Garden celebrated being 3 years old. Congrats.

Readers lose out – Stereogum gets paid in full

March 30, 2008 by cbonnell

According to Paidcontent, Buzznet (I site I truly don’t get) has received even more funding, this time with $$$ from Universal/Interscope. Also mentioned in the article is the fact that Stereogum is now wholly owned by Buzznet/Interscope. I’m not so worried about Stereogum’s potential conflict of interest, as with the fact that they’ll lose whatever original voice they once had (under Scott’s tenure) and become an even more boring place filled with exclusive previews of new songs/videos with little editorial content.

Daily Music Blog Update

Why!?

March 29, 2008 by cbonnell

I started something like this before as a communal project called Music Bloggers United; it was a dismal failure. Then I started something called Music Bloggers Suck that was an even greater, more dismal failure. But three times is a charm, they say. I like to read music blogs, as much as I like to create, write, and talk about them. But I also love all the meta stuff attached to blogs and I think it’d be nice to have all of that compiled in one place. So here’s my forum for that. Enjoy.
